The End - Ta-dah!

PLEASE NOTE ALL DEALS HAVE NOW ENDED X X
 Well chaps and chappesses,

Thank you SO much for joining me on the very last day of my Butterfly Party - I've had a whole fortnight of guests and fun to help me celebrate a year of my erotic novel, A Clockwork Butterfly.
If you hurry on over to Goodreads, you might still be in with a chance of taking part in my signed paperback giveaway. And I'm sure due to the time delay, Beachwalk Press will still be offering 50% off the ebook - checkout code: ButterflyParty...

I've had a blast!

So the other news is that I will be launching the prequel of A Clockwork Butterfly in August - it's called Taking Flight and is set in the same dystopian world following the story of The Wasp. The Wasp is a dominatrix in A Clockwork Butterfly and this new book delves into her history and the events which turned her life upside down.
It's another sexy, raunchy fantasy with impending end of the world doom mingled with hot raw romance and devastating heartache - what more could you wish for? ;)

Here's a taster...
Twigs and branches ripped and tore at their faces, hair and clothing as they just kept running together to who knew where. It was as if the terror and adrenalin had given them new speed and stamina and they kept going until Marcus tripped and fell on a root in a small clearing. Deborah fell after him and he caught her in a strong embrace. His heart battered through his layers of clothing and his body was shaking. At first Deborah thought he was crying and began to comfort him but he released her and lay back open armed on the forest floor, laughing.
“We made it!” he panted clutching at his chest. Deborah knelt up and tried to catch her breath as her shoulders heaved and her lungs burned. Euphoria began to surge as the adrenalin subsided and she let her head fall back, staring up into the canopy of trees just visible in silhouette against the dark sky above. Kneeling there in the damp undergrowth a new vigour and excitement for life bubbled in the pit of her abdomen. Lifting her hand, she stroked her cheek where Marcus had struck her. It was still warm and she smiled as he eased himself up beside her. He lurched towards her and kissed with a ferocious hunger that she hadn’t witnessed before. It was a feral passion and she responded instantly, devouring him back, eating him alive with searing kisses. He roughly pulled her layers of clothing apart, hands raking her body, greedy with lust. She tore at his, grabbing the button of his jeans and was amazed at the strength of his hard-on beneath the thick denim. He was so rigid there was barely space in his crotch to pull down his zipper. Her clothes were open and her breasts exposed to the night and he staggered to standing pulling her up as he went while she still battled to release him. At last she managed to free his thick shaft from his jeans and out into her hands. He pushed her fingers away and grabbed at her behind lifting her easily with new strength. She’d only managed to pull on a woollen skirt and he yanked it up over her hips as he carried her towards the trunk of the closest tree. He slammed her against it, kissing her mouth, chin, jaw, neck then breasts suckling her, nibbling her, taking great mouthfuls of flesh and biting into her. Every hair on her body stood to attention with the arousal and fear that he was going to eat her alive. Her mouth watered for him too and she tried to prise his face back up to hers for a taste of his delicious mouth.

I hope that tickled your fancy for more :D
Well, I'm swapping the Babycham for a brandy and slipping into something a little more comfortable - a lady should always know when to leave a party...
It just remains for me to thank my glorious guests, Ella Jade, Victoria Blisse, Ashlynn Monroe, Lucy Felthouse, Emily Wood, Lily Harlem, Stephanie Beck, Tara Mills, Lexie Bay, Kay Jaybee, Kd Grace, Justine Elyot, Kaylie Newell, Natalie Dae and my super lovely publisher - Beachwalk Press

Natalie Dae is at my Party!

Well ladies and gents, if you have been visiting me over the past fortnight you will already know that this is the Butterfly Party - to celebrate a year of my erotic novel A Clockwork Butterfly. There's been sexy guests, a Goodreads giveaway and 50% off ebook (checkout code ButterflyParty). I hope you've enjoyed hanging out with me and my saucy buddies. Do keep an eye out for the sequel of my book which is due to be launched in August called - Taking Flight.

But let's return to the here and now for the house lights are dimming, the curtain is rising, a hush descends as the spotlight strikes my final guest... the gorgeously seductive, Ms Natalie Dae - welcome...

"It’s my party and I’ll write if I want to!"

I’m not a party girl, so if I had the perfect party organised for me I’d choose to be set up in a room with no interruptions and write all day and night, dozing when I had the need then waking up to start writing again. I love the idea of writer retreats, where there’s nothing to do except write, but I’m afraid I’d miss my family too much to ever go on one of those. The idea of doing nothing but writing for a week is a nice one, and I reserve two weeks a year where I take time off from my day job and do just that. It’s heaven to live and breathe a book like that.

I remember, before I worked full-time, when I wrote what were the original short stories that later became Shadow and Darkness. They were chapter-length shorts that revolved around the working day of a Domme. Each short explored what she did with one of her clients. There were ten in all, five about Mistress Shadow, five about Mistress Darkness, and later on I added their personal lives in between their working chapters and produced a novel. Here’s the blurb and an excerpt. Enjoy!

Blurb:

Two women, both working in a BDSM dungeon, both servicing clients to earn a living, both hoping for true love in the arms of men they’ve only ever dreamed about.

Ursula Meadows, Mistress Shadow by day, longs for the love she feels for her client, a man she’s dubbed Beautiful Luke, to be returned. As she goes through her week at work entertaining all the men on her list and giving them what they want, she spends her nights on a mission to make Luke fall in love with her.

The contrast between her daily life and her evenings is stark, but she’s determined to have the sexy-as-sin man in her bed permanently and not just on the bed in her dungeon. Will she get what her heart aches for, or will Luke, a self-confessed brawler and user of women, find it difficult to stick to just one woman?

Klara Woods, Mistress Darkness by day, is a nymphomaniac. She took a job in a BDSM dungeon as the only way she could think of to sate her huge sexual appetite. Madam allows her to give “extras”, and Klara is happy with the arrangement until she goes out one Monday evening in search of a man to fulfil her needs and meets one who wants so much more than just sex. They agree they won’t have sex until Friday, but it proves difficult for Klara. Every time they meet she can’t resist doing something sexual with him, and the wait until Friday becomes intolerable...

Along with the knowledge she may have found the only man who can service her needs full-time, Klara has to decide whether, if they make a go of their relationship, she can leave the dungeon and all her clients behind. Is her love for Ben strong enough for her to become a one-man woman? Is Ben’s stamina enough to keep Klara sated 24-7? Friday night will be the ultimate test...

Excerpt:

That attire—expensive denims, brand name polo shirt, polished leather loafers—suggests he is wealthy, but one can’t always be sure from appearances. His voice, cultured, brings upper class to mind...though, again, it is foolhardy of me to assume. So often it makes an ass out of you and me.

Name: Luke Johnson

Preference: Bastinado

Notes: Arrogant upon arrival, which lingers at the beginning of the session, submissive thereafter, embarrassed upon leaving. Non-violent. Unmarried.

My dungeon, one of many housed in this remodelled warehouse in London’s belly, witnesses what some may say are atrocities. This black-painted room allows release of men’s wants—wants they wouldn’t otherwise have assuaged. It seems wives don’t understand, and these men...they are, for the most part, ashamed of their desires. Society—cruel society—deems their fantasies absurd, twisted, and weird.

I do not.

The stairs outside my dungeon creak, and I wonder, not for the first time today, if it’s Luke’s tread. Beautiful Luke, who garners more than a second glance from the ladies.

From me.

On more than one occasion I’ve imagined Luke entering a bar. All heads—male and female—look his way. Women swoon at the thought of belonging to him. Men harbour secret wishes that they were him.

I would say Luke is well aware of the attention he commands. He enters my room once a week, always on a Monday, and the air he brings with him holds a charge. A tangible aura. I’d made a bargain with myself to keep business and pleasure separate. If I hadn’t, I’d fuck him. He’s one of the few clients that makes me hot...wet. One of those clients I’d break my own rule for.

Another set of creaks, heavier than the last, indicate the blond Adonis with a penchant for bastinado has arrived. Why he loves his feet caned I don’t know, and I would never bring myself to ask. It isn’t any of my business, although the question still burns my tongue every time I see him.

I inhale, release the breath with slow deliberation, and straighten my shoulders. Upon entrance, he’ll see a black-haired woman, kohl-lined eyes steely, no-nonsense, red lips full and soft. My outfit, the one Luke prefers, resembles that of Catwoman, minus the ears. He loves the clothing, said once that he imagines the feel of it—rubbery and tacky on his hands—that stroking it while I cane him would make him come faster. I had bitten back a gentle laugh at that. He comes fast enough as it is.

He knocks on the door, and I wonder what he’s been up to this weekend just past. Last Monday he’d reported his involvement in a bar brawl. The other week he’d said he’d found himself in an altercation with some man in the gym. One never has any idea of his transgressions until the session begins.

“Enter,” I say.

And wait. Luke always takes a moment to turn the handle and allow himself entrance into my domain. I suspect he fights with himself as to whether he should come in. Or whether he should turn away—leave the premises, never to return. I would guess his predilection gives him sleepless nights. On the one hand he can’t help what he desires, yet on the other... Maybe he thinks people would ridicule him if he let the secret out, perhaps say he was strange, off the wall. For a man like Luke, being cast out of his manly circles, scorned for his needs...well, it would crush him. He’s the ultimate alpha, and alphas, at least the ones I’ve met, don’t like slights of any kind.

The handle rattles, the keeper releases, and the door swings open. And there stands Beautiful Luke, his six-foot-six frame silhouetted by the stark hallway lighting. Blond hair, just long enough to touch his shoulders—wispy waves that call out for me to run my fingers through them, to bury my nose in their softness. Broad shoulders—so broad he almost fills the frame. A muscled chest that a woman could well imagine beneath that white T-shirt of his, one I have seen on many occasion. His nose is skewed—definitely having been broken at some point—and I like that about him. He looks rough around the edges, more than ready for a little...force in the bedroom. The thought of him switching and being the Dom whispers through my mind, and I know he’s the only man I’ve met so far who I’d reverse roles for. To be splayed beneath him, accept everything he dishes out, looking into those blue eyes...

“Good morning, Luke.” Thankfully, my voice is steady, doesn’t belie the tremor racing through me just at the sight of him. I can smell him, all tangy aftershave and fresh sweat. I want that sweat on me. I want that scent so close I can’t breathe.

He steps inside and closes the door, his unblemished hand with its square-ended fingers flat against the wood. He didn’t fight this weekend, then. As usual, he ignores me, slaps his payment on the small wooden table beside the door, and stalks past, heading for the changing room at the back. Inside, he turns to snap the red curtain across for privacy, and his gaze meets mine, a hint of disgust in those heavenly irises. He holds me in contempt, I know. However, I don’t care—much. He arrives, he pays, he gains what he seeks, and leaves.

Leaves me longing for next Monday.

I play a game every time he arrives. Will he preserve his arrogance upon leaving the changing room this week? Will he ignore the myriad instruments hanging on the walls instead of emerging to hang his head and take in the tools one by one from beneath lowered lashes? To check if anything new has gained a place on one of the hooks? I’m amused as to why he bothers. His only interest so far has been the riding crop.

Shadow and Darkness is available in print and ebook from Total-E-Bound, Amazon, and many other online stores.

"It's my party and I'll SLEEP if I want to."
(As a parent to two little girls, sleeping is my biggest and most unattainable fantasy)

Taming Johnny, releasing July 15th from Beachwalk Press:
He's got the temperament of a lion, and she's just the one to tame him.
Police records clerk Emma Beaumont has always played it safe, never taking many risks. Quiet, shy, and a little overweight, she's convinced herself that she's comfortable with the way her life is. That is until she lays eyes on incredibly sexy Lieutenant Johnny Street. But she's never met anyone with such a terrible attitude. He's a jerk. Everyone thinks so.
Little by little, Emma is forced to uncover a stronger, spunkier part of herself, one that isn't afraid to stand up to him. As she gets to know him, she starts seeing glimpses of a very different man. A man who has known great heartache, and as it turns out, has good reason for embracing such bitterness. Behind his sharp tongue and harsh demeanor, lies a young man who's desperately afraid of losing what's left of himself.
As Emma's intense desire for Johnny turns to love, she will have to ask herself how far she'll go to chip away at his frosty heart. And at what cost.
For Kaylie Newell, storytelling is in the blood. Growing up the daughter of two gifted writers, she knew eventually she’d want to follow in their footsteps. While she’s written short stories her whole life, it wasn’t until after her kids were born that she decided to shoot for the moon and write her first romance novel. She hasn’t looked back since!

Justine Elyot is at my party!

Unlace that bodice and drop that waist - for the 1920s have arrived in style, courtesy of my most spiffy and rather naughty guest at the Butterfly Party, Lady Justine Elyot...

Happy birthday to Clockwork Butterfly! I've heard there's a party happening and Tabitha very kindly invited me, so for today's festivities I'm going to lay on a good old English country house shindig.

Why? Because there's plenty of those kinds of goings-on in my new Mischief novel, Secrets And Lords, and it's on my mind. So let's party like it's 1920!

First of all, you need your massive stately pile, with landscaped grounds including (importantly) a lake.

Then you need a fleet of servants: butler, housekeeper, cook, valets, maids-in-waiting, housemaids, chauffeurs…the list goes on and ends with the poor rough-handed scullery maids, spending their lives in hot water.

You'll need to do a lot of preparation – there are menus to be discussed and the provisions bought. Invitations, all hand-written, and sent by post. (Do be careful not to invite Lord Markley if Sir Gryphon Winstanley is to be of the party – they've never got on since that incident at the Fosco-Fortescue grouse shoot.) Beds made up. Entertainment arranged. The list goes on.

All this rigmarole pays off, though, in that perfect moment when your guests are assembled, all spiffingly attired, replete with your marvellous food and lost in admiration of the host and hostess. You stroll in the gardens, listening to the strains of that popular new American band drift overhead, the clarinet vying for supremacy with the trumpet, and enjoy the mellow scents of a summer evening.

Make sure you don't stumble over that couple behind the box hedge, though…

Blurb
The summer of 1920 brings illicit liaisons to stately home Deverell Hall. Lords, ladies, butler and maids all succumb to the spirit of the roaring 1920s as sex and scandal take over.
From the author of bestselling Mischief titles ‘Kinky’ and ‘Game’, Justine Elyot’s ‘Secrets and Lords’ is a historical erotic novel that will seduce anyone who loves period drama Downton Abbey and delight fans of The Great Gatsby.
Lord Deverell's new wife has the house in thrall to her theatrical glamour. His womanising son, Sir Charles, has his eye on anything female that moves while his beautiful daughter, Mary, is feeling more than a little restless. And why does his younger son, Sir Thomas, spend so much time in the company of the second footman?
Into this simmering tension comes new parlour maid, Edie, with a secret of her own – a secret that could blow the Deverell family dynamic to smithereens.

Thanks Justine - sounds rather like my kind of party - what what!

Kay Jaybee & Kd Grace are at my Party!

Welcome to the Butterfly Party - celebrating a year of my erotic fantasy novel, A Clockwork Butterfly! (remember to read to the bottom or check links to your right for giveaways and offers)
Today's amazing guests are the spectacular Kay Jaybee and Kd Grace - I'm so excited to hear their news I'm handing over right now!
"It's Our Party And We'll Laugh -A-Lot If We Want To!!"
Hi everyone, Kay Jaybee here, kicking off this joint party blog!!
Firstly- a huge thanks to the gorgeous Tabitha for inviting us to her party today! It is certainly party time for Kd Grace and myself at the moment! We have just returned from the annual ETO Awards (Erotic Trade), where we were both honoured to be nominated for Best Erotica Writer 2013!!!
It's an unbelievable honour to be nominated for such an award- but as Kd and myself are such good friends, and support each other all the way, it was dead weird to be up against each other! Especially as our erotica is so different from each other's!
Up against EL James and Sylvia Day (who you might just have heard of!!), and the brilliant Rachel Krammer Bussel (Cleis Press), we went into the show with a certainty we wouldn't win, but a determination to laugh and laugh and laugh- and boy did we!!
With the ETO Show in the afternoon, Kd and I joined the wonderful Hazel Cushion, head girl at Xcite Books, to sign copies of our books, and chat to our fellow writers, nominees, and fans (yes- we actually have fans- I’ll never get used to that!!). Then, with new dresses in place, stupidly high heels on our feet, and a glass of vino in hand, we were escorted by our wonderful partners to the party itself.
And wow- our determination to laugh the evening away really took no effort at all!! How could it not when awards were being handed out for best lube and best dildo?? Let's face it- this is some amazing world we're part of!!!....
So- who won the best author award then...over to you KD!!!

AND THE WINNERS ARE … Kay Jaybee and K D Grace!

Oh, someone named E.L. James nabbed the ETO award for best erotic author, it’s true, but Kay Jaybee and I were the real winners in so many ways. First of all, we had the fantastic experience of meeting fans we didn’t know about at the ETO trade show and of making new connections and new friends while seeing all kinds of innovative new sex toys, lingerie, games and other totally cool stuff. Secondly we won because so many of our dear friends won, friends who’ve helped promote us and shared our work. Sh! Women’s Store, Lovehoney, Nice ‘n’ Naughty, Cara Sutra, and our very own Xcite Books were among the winners. How could we not catch the celebratory mood?

After the awards banquet, we won even more with the chance to connect with old friends and make new friends; with the chance to talk writing and plan and scheme new stories with Xcite’s MD, Hazel Cushion; with the chance to find out the latest from Lovehoney – including how popular our novels are with their customers. We won by having our lovely blokes there to celebrate with us. And we won just because we were THERE at ETO, admiring the gowns and PVC finery, drinking fizz and celebrating all things erotic with all the other lovely folks doing the same. When we finally toddled off to bed in the wee hours, we especially knew that we’d won from all the fantastic love and support we received from our dear friends and fabulously talented fellow smutter’s and Brit Babes and all others back home.
I mean we really, really won! Thanks everyone! We love what we do and we love sharing it, and the ETO awards banquet was just one more chance to celebrate what we love! Oh yes! We most definitely won!

We both wish Tabitha’s fabulous novel, A Clockwork Butterfly, a very, very happy first birthday!
Kay and KD xxx
Just let me fangirl a little... phew and swoon! Thank you for coming on over ladies - sounded like SO much fun at the ETO - huge congratulations to you and Xcite :)

As it is a celebration why not take advantage of these:

Lexie Bay is at my Party!

Hooray! I've got the gorgeous sexy Lexie Bay as guest of honour at the Butterfly Party today. I was lucky enough to share her company this weekend along with some of my fave erotica writing pals at Smut By The Sea in Scarborough... of course we were all very well behaved and shared a small cup of warm milk and some cookies after the event ;) Remember to read to the end for the usual giveaway and special offer - or look to your right :D
Oooo - the excerpt from her story below is the one she read on Saturday - and let me tell you, she has one very sensual voice. Take it away Ms Bay...
Hi Tabitha and thank you so much for inviting me to the party today to celebrate a whole year of A Clockwork Butterfly!

"It’s my party and I’ll……. laugh with my friends, refuse to do Karaoke, drink too much Jack Daniels and do the Conga home if I want to!"
And if anyone was at Smut by the Sea this weekend they’ll be able to confirm this ;)
Here’s a naughty little snippet of my latest story which appears in Coming Together With Curves. It’s called Flesh for Fantasy and it’s a cheeky scene between a girl and her gorgeous curvy girlfriend….. a makeover with a twist. I hope you enjoy it xx
Sophia brings the little pots of coloured powder closer to the edge of the bed as she kneels between my thighs, pushing my legs further apart so that she can get as close as possible to me. She arranges everything just so, and I feel like it’s a ceremony and I am the willing sacrifice. She unrolls a velvet pouch to reveal an array of brushes. They are jet black in all different sizes and I watch as she peruses the collection, deciding on which one to use to inflict colour onto my face. I could watch her for hours, the gentle jiggle of her breasts against the satin of her corset.
She pulls out one of the largest of the brushes and swirls it through a pot of pink powder then deposits it on my cheek with a flourish. The brush tickles my skin and the scent of the powder fills my nostrils making me want to sneeze. Sophia repeats the process on my second cheek and grins as she looks at me. “You suit a pretty flushed cheek,” she says. “It reminds me of how you look when you’re turned on.”
“I am turned on,” I say smiling back at her. “It would be hard not to be with your sexy curves so close to me.”
“Am I making your pussy wet?” she asks, walking her fingers up my inner thighs towards my damp crotch. I spread my legs a little wider, bucking my hips in a desperate attempt to get her to stroke my throbbing pussy. She is teasing me, the mischievous glint in her eye telling me that I am not about to get relief anytime soon. Sophia purses her lips and blows on the brush, letting a fine dusting of pink powder rain down onto my thighs. She leans towards me again and trails the fluffy end of the brush over my cleavage. I gasp at the sensation of the brush on my skin, my nipples hardening instantly beneath my lacy bra so that they rub tantalisingly against the fabric.
Sophia runs her tongue over her bottom lip as she watches my reaction. Then she leans forward and runs it over the small curve of my left breast. Before I can react she blows gently on the wet patch, watching my skin pucker into goosebumps, sending darts of pleasure through my body. My breasts feel heavy and swollen, the nipples aching to feel her tongue, lips, fingers, anything.
She has something else in mind though and goes back to her pots of colour, biting her lip as she thinks about which colours to use to paint my eyes. I love how she gets all serious as she works on me. She trained at beauty school before she became a dancer and she knows her stuff.
She picks a small brush and dips it into a pale pinky colour. “Close your eyes,” she murmurs and I do as I am told. The loss of my sight makes my other senses go into overdrive. I can smell the musk of her pussy and the hot scent of my own need. I can still taste the sweetness of her lip gloss and the smooth slide of her skin against my thighs is driving me crazy. She sweeps the brush over my eyelid. She is so close; her ample breasts rub against mine. I keep my eyes closed even when she removes the brush, waiting for her to continue. She lets her lips press against mine briefly, her free hand on my leg before she moves to the other eye. Her breath is warm against my cheek as she concentrates on getting the colour even. I stay perfectly still, my eyes closed, waiting to see what she will do next, the thrill of the unknown making me wetter than I have ever been.
Sophia blows briefly over my eyelids to remove the excess and then I feel the soft bristles of a tiny brush stroke over my cheeks and linger on the bow of my lips. She teases me with the sensations, stroking and dabbing against my skin. I giggle as she tickles me, trying to squirm away but she holds my hand to keep me still.
“Stop wriggling,” she chides, giving me a playful spank on the thigh. I am so desperate for her touch that I wriggle again, trying to get another slap.
“I know what you’re doing,” she says, “but if you can’t sit still I’ll have to make you.” With that she grabs a silk scarf and binds my wrists together behind the chair. I moan softly as the material holds me tightly against the chair. I spread my legs a little wider, knowing that my thong is barely covering my pussy and that the sight of it will be making Sophia hungry for me.
I keep my eyes closed, wondering if she will continue with the makeup. I find out soon enough.   She tells me to open my eyes, and I feel the cool of the mascara wand as she delicately flicks my eyelashes with jet black, defining and highlighting my features with her miracle touch. In that moment I adore her, the way she fusses over me like I am her living doll.
“So beautiful,” she says, standing back to admire me, “but I think we need a little more work elsewhere. With that she slides her scarlet-painted fingernails into my thong and in one swift motion pulls it down my legs, flinging it unceremoniously across the bedroom. The sudden cool of the air on my pussy makes me moan and I look at her, watching as she studies the dark pink slit she has exposed. She kneels before me again and with a flourish, takes two more scarves and ties each ankle to a chair leg.
Author Bio:
Lexie started writing to immerse herself in a fantasy world where women are adored and men fall at their feet.  It didn’t take long before she realised that sometimes men do that so you can stomp all over them in your sexy stiletto boots and since then she’s been creating stories that stay true to her original romantic dream while exploring the erotic, the kinky and the downright filthy.  She writes about anything that emerges from the murky depths of her imagination, whenever she gets the opportunity.
Lexie lives with her husband and two daughters on the south coast of England, and spends her days working as an accounts director. She loves the adrenaline rush of the unexpected, craves peace to write every day, likes to lose herself in the realms of fantasy and has a thing for smells that take her back to her childhood.
Lexie is published by House of Erotica and Sweetmeats Press and you can find out more about her at:

Tara Mills is at my Party!

My fortnight of fun and frolics at the Butterfly Party continues with a snippet of the new book from today's guest of honour, Tara Mills...
Read to the end or look to your right for offers and giveaways! x
Grading on Curves — by Tara Mills
Blurb:
One-on-one instruction never felt so right—or so wrong.

There’s nothing unusual about Mia Page’s attraction to the young science teacher at the middle school. After all, she’s not the only one who finds him enticing. But when he pulls her son aside to ask for her phone number, she knows she’s in serious trouble. Since her divorce four years earlier, she’s been out of circulation, choosing to focus on parenting instead, and she’s not entirely sure she can handle an entanglement with the sexy Mr. Walden.
There are also other reasons why getting involved with Curt would be a bad idea. He’s two years shy of thirty, and she’s on the downside of that unmentionable number. He’s adamant about never having kids, and she has a son. Even the guy’s romantic gifts are suspect. Energy saving light bulbs? He has to be kidding.
On the other hand, he’s fun, sweet, and smart. He stimulates her intellectually, emotionally, and Lord help her, physically, opening her eyes to life outside her comfortable world. Yet their differences quietly gnaw at Mia even while she succumbs to their undeniable chemistry.
As their romance deepens, so do Mia’s fears that Curt will eventually hurt her. On edge, all it takes is an innocent comment to provoke her into drawing first blood. Mia recklessly wounds Curt, learning only too late that this blade cuts both ways. Frantic to make amends, she fears it might be too late to admit the feelings she’s tried so hard to suppress.
Excerpt:
Mia pulled against the curb and put the truck into park.
“Do you want to come in?” Curt’s eyes picked up the greenish glow of the dashboard lights and flickered seductively back at her.
The guy didn’t make things easy on her. Her heart wanted to answer yes but that’s not what her mouth was saying. “I would, Curt, I really would, but I can’t. It’s too soon.” The look she gave him begged for patience. “I’m sorry. I just need more time.”
“I understand.” Then he grew serious. “I don’t think it’ll come as a shock that I want to take you to bed, but I’m willing to wait, within reason, for you.”
“Within reason?”
His smile was back. “Well, you can’t expect me not to try,” he said, leaning in to take a kiss. “I’m going to do everything in my power to change your mind. But ultimately, it’s up to you. Let me know when you’re ready, okay?”
There was a battle going on inside her. She wanted to take him up on his offer now but this was such a big step for her. All told, Curt would only be the fourth man to ever see her naked, counting her old obstetrician. Intimacy with another man was suddenly a pretty terrifying thought.
Still, her heart raced like a hummingbird’s at the expectation in his eyes, the confidence that he was going to be her lover. If she was capable of lying to herself she might have felt offended by his presumptions but who was she kidding? She knew the minute she mentally undressed him that she’d be an idiot not to jump at the chance to get close to the real deal. Other women would have tripped her down the stairs for the opportunity he was offering. She’d already met one.
“I’ll keep you posted,” she said softly.
Curt’s smile warmed and he squeezed her thigh, giving her an intoxicating kiss that lingered on her lips after he drew back.
Mia’s eyes slowly opened and locked on his. The corner of his mouth twitched and she copied his expression. Curt leaned in again, but this time Mia took his head in her hands and kissed him first, feeling his hands bunch in her hair as they fed from each other one last time.
She was sorry when he slipped his hands free and turned to open his door.
“We’re still on for tomorrow, right?” Curt asked, looking back as he climbed out.
“Absolutely.”
“Good night, Mia.”
His glowing smile could have drawn moths if he stood still long enough, but he shut the door and strode across the grass. She put the truck into gear and pulled away, certain she was right to hold off, but miserable just the same.
She had no idea how she was going to make it through tomorrow.
