I've always loved Valentine's Day for as long as I can remember. The lead up, the waiting, the anticipation..

Sometimes I'd get a handmade card - the ones we made in art class, with scrawling immature text.

But my favourite was the one that came through the post. How sophisticated! The beautifully scripted handwriting sloping to the right - the slant of a much more mature admirer. I'd trace my fingers over my name, thinking how pretty it looked on paper compared to how it sounded out loud...

Every year my secret admirer would send me a Valentine, scented with a floral bouquet and written in the beautiful script.

This has continued into my adult life and while I may not send so many out, I still look forward with excitement to my lovely card.

Excitement for the Big Day!

Just popping by to tell you how excited I am about Valentine's day coming up! (There may be a special gift in store just for you, so pop back on Friday!) I am a die hard fan of the whole thing. I get told off by many people - saying, "It's just a con invented to encourage mass consumerism!" or "It's just a lot of superficial nonsense that makes people stressed!" or "It's commercialism at it's worst".

Well to that I say NONSENSE!!

There's nothing like the feeling, the thrill of anticipation the night before when you slip into a silky bubble bath wondering who your dashing mystery hero might be - the black polo necked fiend who deposits a box of Milk Tray on your pillow, then leaves without a sound (the swine!) or the handmade card with scribbly left handed writing to disguise the author? Or that moment where a someone you've never met before suddenly gives you flower... ok so - perhaps I am influenced somewhat by adverts from a certain era - but I'm telling you - take the time to send a card! You will make somebody smile to the roots of their being!

Here's my secret - I know I will be getting a Valentine's card. I've known every year from the age of 7 and I cherish it lovingly to my bosom - knowing full well who took the time to do such a gesture.

Now a lady would never tell... but thank you Gran, makes my year!

I really ought to take care of that...

Well, I don't think it's escaped anyone's notice that the pinnacle of the romantic year is almost upon us. Valentine's day. Hmmm, dreaming about heart shaped chocolates, roses, poems with sublime naughty undertones.

But first - another vitally important ceremony which determines whether afore mentioned loveliness will happen...

The post winter moult. Yikes.
In nature this happens spontaneously and without any implements of torture (my carpets bear testament to this by my animal friends depositing little piles of fur and fluff all over). In my human world though, the defuzzing is a torturous affair that I take the whole winter to work up to.

And today is the day.

I have to wear nylon stockings tomorrow (yay a party!) now those of you who have worn real nylons before know how they ruche and wrinkle at the merest hint of lady growth beneath them. So ankles, shins, calves, knees and thighs must be silky smooth.

So I am writing this blog waiting for the soluble aspirin to take effect. Here's a tip if you are about to get your legs waxed - taking aspirin (if you can - I'm no medic - read the label and all that...) may help stop the redness and blotching - it does for me anyway. Then it's off with my hair!

I was thinking how lovely to be a character in a naughty romance - I have never had any of mine that I've made up or read about have to go through this ordeal (unless it's part of a saucy scene).

When I'm writing, my ladies are all fully prepared at all times, their legs all soft and smooth, for themselves or whoever they chose to run their fingers up and down without cringing inside thinking I really ought to take care of that...


Anyhoo, the wax is-a-bubblin'.
